We're working with Roadchef to welcome wildlife to places you least expect it.

Big Butterfly Count

Working to attract wildlife to places you least expect it.

As an official sponsor of Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count, we want as many people as possible to take part in the count - a UK wide citizen science project to help determine the state of Britains' butterflies. That's why we're planting butterfly gardens in select Roadchef service stations, to help raise awareness of the Big Butterfly Count and inspire people to connect with nature in ways they may not have considered.

Check out the map below to see which pitstop's for pollinator's you can stop at, whilst you're on your own pitstop for refreshments!

Big Butterfly Count

Re-wilding corners of the UK roadside

We're pleased to have launched a long-term partnership with one of the UK's largest motorway services to encourage wildlife into areas you least expect it. Together we're creating perfect pollinator pit-stops for our butterflies, bees, bugs are birds! To celebrate the Big Butterfly Count, we are planting our own Butterfly Borders at various Roadchef locations to encourage people to get involved in the count and encourage biodiversity, beauty and wildlife to areas not associated with thriving habitats.

What is the Big Butterfly Count?

An annual even which encourages people to get outside for 15 minutes, between 15th July and 7th August, and to count and record the butterflies and day-flying moths that you see. The Big Butterfly Count helps us to assess the health of our environment. Since its launch in 2010, it has rapidly become the world’s largest survey of butterflies! Last year, over 107,000 citizen scientists took part, submitting over 152,000 counts of butterflies and day-flying moths from all over the UK
